FLAMENCO BLACK was established as a non-profit organization on October 10th, 2023, by Artistic-Executive Director Bridget L. Moore. In partnership with its affiliated company, B. MOORE DANCE, we are dedicated to equity, fairness, and inclusion, bridging communities through dance.
Our mission honors Afro-Andalusian roots while promoting inclusivity and celebrating diverse cultural influences within Flamenco and the African Diaspora. We organize community festivals that blend traditional Flamenco with contemporary dance, and provide immersive performances, music performances, and workshops within the field of dance.
Additionally, FLAMENCO BLACK fosters international collaborations with local artists, creating opportunities for cross-cultural exchange. Our community engagement initiatives inspire dialogue and drive social change, enhancing appreciation for the cultural fabric of Flamenco and modern expression.
Global Connexion emerged in 2021 during the global pandemic to foster meaningful connections between Dallas-based artists and their international counterparts. The upcoming 2024-2025 Season will reignite this initiative, showcasing its festival and collaborative efforts once again. Under the leadership of Artistic- Executive Director Bridget L. Moore, the Global Connexion International Festival prioritizes cultural exchange and community involvement, underscoring the importance of local engagement. This season features a significant collaboration with Venezuelan Master Flamenco Choreographer and Dancer Daniela Tugues, bringing her artistic heritage to enrich the festival. By facilitating dialogue among diverse cultures, Global Connexion aims to enhance the local arts scene and strengthen community ties, particularly between Flamenco and the African Diaspora. This initiative seeks to celebrate the intersections of these artistic traditions, fostering mutual understanding and shared experiences that unite communities through the universal language of dance and music.
VIDA DE TORRO-THE LIFE OF THE BULL is the original work and an extension of African Bulerías in Flamenco Black, choreographed by Bridget L. Moore.
In flamenco, the bull represents strength, power, and passion, and the dance often depicts the struggle between the dancer, representing the matador, and the imaginary bull. This struggle can be seen as a metaphor for the challenges and triumphs in life.
The bull symbolizes fertility, strength, and vitality in African cultures, representing the ability to sustain life and overcome challenges within the community. Additionally, ownership of bulls reflects wealth and status, serving as valuable assets that signify prosperity and social influence.
